As with all monitors, beware of the claws and tail as many a hhobbyist have been whipped and scratched. Caution should be taken when handling any monitor.

Monitors are not for everyone. They require a lot of space and time. If considering a monitor as a part of your colleciton, think of them on the same terms as you would the "giant" snakes. As monitors get to be big, take into consideration the large amounts of food that they consume whem buying one. It can get expensive feeding an adult monitor. It is also recommended tha tyou find a local veternarian who has experience with reptile before you purchase any reptile. Even if your monitor isn't sick, you still should take it to the vet for a check up and to get its claws trimmed.
