Lighting, Heating and Humidity for the Vieled Chameleon
Lighting
It is recommended to provide chameleons with full-spectrum fluorescent lighting that emits UVB 10 hours a day. This is necessary for vitamin D3 production that is important for calcium absorption, without which the chameleon will suffer from a calcium deficiency.
Heating
Veiled Chameleons like hot basking spots. It is not uncommon to see them basking even when the ambient temperature is 80 to 90 degrees. It is critically important that you provide a heating lamp to create a basking spot of 90 to 100 degrees at one end of the enclosure. The ambient air temperature in the rest of the cage should be in the 80's during the day and the mid 70's a night.
Humidity
Humidity levels in chameleon cages is very difficult to maintain as most enclosure for these animals have at least on side that is entirely screen thus unable to contain the moisture. Misting your chameleon several times daily will help keep it hydrated and allow for your chameleon to drink as they will not drink from standing water. Mist the enclosure making sure to mist the sides of the glass (if present), leaves, branches, etc. This will cause droplets to form which your chameleon will drink from. Today there are commercially available misting systems and drip systems that handle this automatically. if the top of your enclosure is screen allowing a couple of ice cubes to melt through the screen will provide a small drip system.
